The Gospel According to John

Chapter 17

Jesus' Prayer of Intercession - For Himself
1 When Jesus had thus spoken, He lifted His face toward heaven and said, "Father, the time has come. Glorify Your Son, so that the Son may glorify You. 2 For You gave Him authority over all mankind; yes, You gave Him everything so that He may give them everlasting life. 3 And this is eternal life - to know You, the only true God, and Jesus the Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have given You glory here on earth; I have done the work You sent Me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify Me with Yourself. Give Me the glory I had with You before the world was.

Jesus' Prayer of Intercession - For His Disciples
6 "I have revealed Your name to the people You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, but You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your Word. 7 They now understand that everything that You gave Me is from You. 8 For I gave them the Word which You gave Me, and they accepted it. They truly understand that I came from You, and they believe that You sent Me.

9 "I am praying for them. I am not making any request for the world, but for those whom You gave Me, for they are Yours. 10 Everything of Mine is Yours, and Yours is Mine. And I have been glorified in them. 11 I am not to be in the world any longer, but these are still in the world. I come now to You. Holy Father, keep in Your name those whom You have given Me, so that they may be one as We are One. 12 While I was with them in the world I kept them safe in Your name. I kept guard over those whom You gave Me, and not one of them was lost except the son of perdition, in fulfillment of Scripture. 13 But now I come to You, and I say this while in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in them.

14 "I have given them Your Word. But the world hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of this world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; Your Word is truth.

18 "Just as You sent Me into the world, so also I have sent them into the world. 19 For their sakes I sanctify Myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth.

Jesus' Prayer of Intercession - For All Believers
20 "I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe on Me through their word. 21 May they all be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I in You, so that they may be one in Us, in order that the world may believe that You sent Me! 22 I gave them the glory that You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are One; 23 I in them and You in Me, so that they may be made completely one, in order that the world may know that You have sent Me and that You love them as You love Me.

Jesus' Prayer of Intercession - For Unity and Glory
24 "Father, I desire that those You gave Me may be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You gave Me, because You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 Righteous Father, I knew You though the world did not, and these knew that You sent Me. 26 I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love that You had for Me may be in them, and that I may be in them."
